UCS Strikes Gold!

Another "first" in a career of firsts for a history-making athlete and coach...

LINCOLNTON, NC - UCS Inc., one of the world's leading athletic equipment manufacturers, today announced that Peter Kormann has joined the company as full-time Director of Gymnastics & Cheer Products for the UCS Gymnastics and Cheer Division. "Peter Kormann is a legendary figure in American gymnastics," said UCS President Jeff Schwartz, noting that the 54-year-old Kormann has the distinction of being the first to be inducted into the United States Gymnastics Hall of Fame as an athlete, before he was done coaching. In the 1976 Olympic Games, Kormann ended a 44-year-American medal draught by winning a bronze in the floor exercise. He later coached at Navy and Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to the 1996 NCAA Team Championship. Kormann also served as the head coach of the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team in 1996 and 2000. He is a member of the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors, the National Gymnastics Judges Association, and the U.S. Olympic Committee.
"I'm delighted to join the winning team of professionals at UCS," said Kormann. "At Navy, OSU, and Chelsea Piers, I've long been a big fan and satisfied customer of their products." UCS is one of the largest gymnastics equipment manufacturers in the U.S. The company is renowned for its design innovation, engineering precision, and hand-craftsmanship. In the mid-1970s, just at the time that Peter Kormann was dazzling judges with his athletic skills, UCS was introducing the market to a revolutionary new line of trapezoid trainers for young gymnasts, physical education classes, and special needs children.
"Peter's extensive background as a competitor, coach, and administrator provide him with the technical knowledge to greatly enhance and expand the gymnastics product-development line at UCS," stated Schwartz. "As someone who lives and breathes gymnastics 24/7, naturally I've often thought 'Gee, wouldn't it be awesome if we had a product that does this-or-that?' Now I'm in a unique position where I have the leading design, engineering, and management support to translate that wish list into real products that can help gymnasts improve," said Kormann.
As part of the UCS team Peter has been hard at work creating innovative new designs for training equipment including the new UCS Skill Roller, Aluminum Balance Beam Series and Vault Training Table.  Look for Peter in the upcoming series of UCS Skill Development videos featuring many of the new products he himself has worked to develop.
In addition to his new involvement in all phases of new product research and development, Kormann will also work with the UCS marketing and sales team and is expected to continue leading coaching clinics across the country.
